I do remember those huge engines the Trans Am cars had. I always did like a car that handled good down the straights.

SCR Performance and APW to run Pike's Peak Hill Climb with Robert Thorne in 2011

January 10, Loveland, CO: SCR Performance and APW are proud to announce that driver Robert Thorne will be piloting the SCR Performance Audi A4R to the top of Pikes Peak in June 2011.

SCR is currently in the progress of converting their Super Touring Audi A4 from road race trim to Time Attack 4WD for this year's Pike's Peak International Hill Climb.

Behind the wheel of the fortified A4R will be pro driver Robert Thorne, who will be making his first foray into hillclimbing. Thorne is stepping to hillclimbing from a season in Grand AM, before which he has run at the pro level in Indy Lights and Formula BMW Americas.

"Now that all but three miles of the 12.5 mile course is paved, we're setting forth to establish ourselves as one of the leading Sports Car competitors in North American Hill Climb," said SCR Performance President, Mark Baer, "After our success last year running the youngest-ever driver up 'The Hill', we knew we had to come back in 2011, and we couldn't be happier to be doing it with a professional like Robert."

Stay tuned for build updates as SCR Performance continues transformation of its A4. Modifications to the underside of the vehicle, including suspension, lighting, and aerodynamics, are all being implemented to increase the speed, reliability and overall robustness for one of the world's most difficult races.

Special thanks to 034 Motorsports for ECU hardware and support for this year's event.
